*** Talus Imaging & Communications Corp. announces the creation of
a new hardware manufacturing and systems integration company,
along with a new color laptop for NEXTSTEP 3.2.***
August 31, 1994
HOUSTON, TEXAS..... Talus Imaging Vice President Dan Kramer
announced today that a new company has been formed to produce
integrated hardware solutions specifically for the NEXTSTEP
market. The new company, Talus Systems, Inc., will be headed by
Steve Hurst, former Vice President of Talus Imaging & Communications
Corporation. The new company will also be headquartered in
Houston, Texas.
The first offering from Talus Systems is a machine for which the
entire NEXTSTEP community has been waiting: a color laptop that
works today under NEXTSTEP 3.2. The Talus T-100 is powered by
an Intel DX4-100 processor and features both 16-bit TFT color
and 16-bit stereo sound. The T-100 will offer hard drive options
up to 524MB and RAM up to 32MB. The T-100 also offers an optional
built-in 14.4 kbps fax/modem. Each notebook that is purchased
with NEXTSTEP preloaded from Talus will come bundled with a free
copy of Metrotools, which includes six useful utilities to enhance
NEXTSTEP productivity, along with a fully licensed copy of SoftPC
for easy access to Windows applications. The T-100 is fully NEXTIME
compatible.
Steve Hurst observes that "users have been plagued with a lack of
drivers that work properly with the other components in their
machines. With access to the driver/software resources of the
Talus family of companies, we can guarantee that everything works
together."
As Dan Kramer points out, "We have received hundreds of requests
to provide totally integrated maximum performance machines that
will run right out of the box. Customers are frustrated at the
expensive and lengthy process of trying to match components that
all work together. They want a machine that 'just works.' Talus
Systems will meet that need."
"Early responses to the T-100 color laptop have been overwhelmingly
positive," Steve Hurst further noted. "This is a long-awaited
machine. We understand that NEXTSTEP 3.3 will offer 8-bit color
support sometime in the future, but the power users of the NEXTSTEP
market need color now. We have a portable16-bit color solution
today."
Talus Imaging and Communications Corporation, based in Houston,
Texas, has been producing quality device drivers and application
software for NEXTSTEP since 1989. Talus I&C Corp. will continue
meeting the software needs of the NEXTSTEP market and Talus
Systems, Inc. will provide hardware manufacturing and integration
functions.
